About Us

Magdalen Cheese & Provisions is us, Rachel & Jacob. With 20 years of Cheesemonger-ing under our belt, it is our mission at Magdalen Cheese to bring traditional, farmhouse cheese to the modern table.

Our love story with cheese – and also each other – began at Neal’s Yard Dairy, one of very few British affineurs. Jacob spent 8 years working in cheese maturation at Neal’s Yard, where he built relationships with some of the finest British cheesemakers and developed his understanding of what a cheese needs to be the best version of itself. Rachel has focussed more on the retail aspect of the cheese biz, managing cheese shops and counters between London & Devon.

Our collective experience has led us to the natural conclusion of opening our very own cheese shop in Rachel’s home town of Exeter. Having moved to Devon from London right before the first COVID-19 lockdown in 2020, it has been a strange and difficult time. But our family of (now) four has settled in to the community and it brings us great joy to share the things we love with the people that come through our door. Devon is full of amazing producers and we are excited to continue discovering all that it has to offer.
